Playing The Decatur Nine.

“Green Fees”

Rod’s vision of creating an asset that the whole community could share and enjoy means that there is currently no required payment to play. But we do ask for a donation, suggested at $5 per player, with children under 12 playing for free. We hope they will grow up to be keen golfers and contributors!

Payments can be made in a variety of ways. We accept Venmo and PayPal at our handle @TheDecaturNine. Zelle payments can be made at TheDecaturNine@gmail.com.

Clubs and Balls

The clubhouse has many clubs of all sizes and shapes for visitors to borrow. Please be very sure to return the clubs to the right compartment!

Balls are also available. Take as many as you think you need but please don’t just drive balls into the forest for fun! If you’re looking for a lost ball see if you can find a few more. We think the record is 12 in about five minutes.

Ideally, you’ll return as many balls to the box as you borrowed. There is no charge for golf balls although if you lose many (as does the writer), perhaps adding a dollar or two to your donation might be appropriate!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can our guests who are not island residents use the course?

They certainly can! And we hope their round (or rounds) will be a highlight of their visit. And they can play in the Wide Open. Many do.

Do kids play free?

Yes indeed: no donation needed for the under-12s.

If it’s all run by volunteers, why do you need donations?

We have some significant expenses. As well as machinery and equipment purchase and maintenance, this year’s January windstorms did major damage to the course, especially along the second fairway. With many dangerous leaning and snagged trees, we had to hire a skilled contractor to make the area safe. And we will need to do further major work, requiring heavy equipment, to continue the cleanup.

And the Potluck following the Wide Open is free to all, although donations are of course welcome!

Are there clubs for left-handers in the clubhouse?

There is a good selection of clubs for left-handers. You’ll see a marked bin.

What about golf shoes and gloves?

We don’t supply those, and rest assured that we have no rules on proper golf attire!

I have other questions: who can answer them?
